A2P 10DLC registration is required before a business can send SMS or MMS through a standard US 10-digit phone number. Launch365 guides you through the registration and keeps business identity, messaging campaign, and phone-number assignment statuses visible in the app.
This guide explains the complete setup, what every status means, how updates reach the app, and what to do when a step needs attention.
How A2P 10DLC Setup Works
There are three stages:
- Brand identity: Registers and verifies the business sending the messages.
- Messaging Campaign: Registers what the business sends, who receives it, and how recipients provide consent.
- Phone-number assignment: Connects each sending number to the approved Campaign.
SMS and MMS remain unavailable until all three stages are complete. Voice calling is configured separately and may be ready while messaging registration is still pending.
Before You Begin
Gather the following information before starting:
- The exact legal business name shown on IRS or other official records
- EIN or tax ID, unless registering as a sole proprietor without an EIN
- Business entity type and primary industry
- Complete business address
- A working business phone number in international format, such as
+15551234567 - A monitored business email address
- A live, publicly accessible business website
- Privacy policy and terms and conditions pages
- A clear description of how customers consent to receive text messages
- The types of messages the business will send
- Two to five realistic sample messages
The legal name, EIN, address, website, and contact information should agree with public business records. Inconsistent information is a common reason for a Brand verification failure.
Your website and consent process should also make the SMS program clear. Recipients must knowingly agree to receive messages, and the registration must accurately describe how that consent is collected.
Open the A2P Registration Page
- In Launch365, open Settings.
- Open SMS & Voice Numbers or Phone Numbers.
- Select A2P registration.
The page shows two progress cards:
- Phase 1 · Brand identity
- Phase 2 · Messaging Campaign
It also shows the Telnyx Brand ID, Campaign ID, review notes, last synchronization time, and whether SMS/MMS is still locked.
Phase 1: Register the Brand Identity
A Brand represents the legal business that customers recognize as the sender.
Submit a new Brand
Select the correct registration type:
- Business with EIN: Use this for an LLC, corporation, nonprofit, government organization, or other business with an EIN.
- Sole proprietor: Use this only for an individual or qualifying business without an EIN. Sole-proprietor registrations have additional carrier limitations.
Complete the form with the company’s exact legal details:
- Entity type
- Industry
- Legal business name
- Customer-facing name
- EIN and issuing country, when applicable
- Business phone and email
- Website
- Street address, city, state, and ZIP code
Select Submit brand. Launch365 sends the information to Telnyx and The Campaign Registry, also called TCR, for identity verification.
Most Brand details should be treated as final when submitted. Review them carefully before continuing.
Connect an existing approved Brand
If the company already has an approved Brand in the same Telnyx account used by Launch365:
- Enter the Telnyx Brand ID. Do not enter the TCR Brand ID.
- Confirm that the Brand belongs to the company.
- Select Connect approved Brand.
Launch365 checks the Brand with Telnyx before saving it and displays the current status returned by Telnyx.
Brand Statuses
| Status shown in Launch365 | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Not started | No Brand has been submitted or connected. | Submit a new Brand or connect an existing approved Brand. |
| Submitted, Under review, or Registration pending | Telnyx or TCR is reviewing the business identity. | Wait for review, then select Sync all statuses. |
| Self-declared | A sole-proprietor Brand exists but has not reached verified status. | Complete any requested verification and sync again. |
| Verified, Vetted and verified, Approved, or Active | The business identity passed the required verification. | Continue to the Messaging Campaign. |
| Verification failed, Registration failed, Failed, or Rejected | The business could not be verified or the registration was rejected. | Read the Brand review notes, correct the underlying business information, and contact support before submitting a replacement. |
The Messaging Campaign form becomes available only after the Brand reaches an approved status.
Phase 2: Register the Messaging Campaign
A Campaign describes the actual messaging program. The submitted information must match the messages the business will send after approval.
1. Choose the use case
Choose the use case that best describes the program, such as customer care, account notifications, delivery notifications, marketing, or low-volume mixed messaging.
For a Mixed or Low Volume Mixed Campaign, select between two and five included message types. The Campaign description, opt-in process, and sample messages must cover every selected type.
Do not choose a use case only because it appears less expensive. A mismatch between the registered use case and actual traffic can cause rejection, filtering, or suspension.
2. Check eligibility and cost
Select Check Telnyx eligibility and cost before submitting. Launch365 asks Telnyx whether the Brand qualifies for the selected use case and displays any monthly, quarterly, or annual fee returned by Telnyx.
Changing the use case requires another eligibility check. Launch365 also checks eligibility again when the Campaign is submitted.
Final registration and carrier charges are determined by Telnyx and TCR. Campaign submission is billable and may include a non-refundable minimum commitment.
3. Describe the messaging program
Complete each part of the Campaign form:
- Campaign description: Explain who sends messages, who receives them, and every message type the Campaign will send.
- Opt-in workflow: Explain exactly where and how customers consent. Include the page, form, keyword, or verbal process and the consent disclosure.
- Keywords: Supply comma-separated opt-in, opt-out, and HELP keywords without spaces.
- Automatic responses: Provide the confirmations recipients receive for opt-in, opt-out, and HELP.
- Sample messages: Provide two to five realistic examples that identify the business, match the use case, and include opt-out instructions.
- Compliance links: Provide the business privacy policy and terms and conditions URLs.
- Content attributes: Accurately indicate whether messages contain links, phone numbers, age-gated content, lending content, or use number pooling.
If messages may include links, provide a full example using a branded domain. Avoid public URL shorteners.
4. Review and submit
Confirm that:
- All information is accurate.
- The business has explicit recipient consent.
- Samples match the selected use case.
- The correct content attributes are selected.
- The applicable carrier terms and charges are accepted.
Then select Submit campaign. Most Campaign details cannot be changed after submission, so review the full form first.
Connect an existing approved Campaign
If the Brand already has an approved Campaign in the same Telnyx account:
- Connect the approved Brand first.
- Enter the Telnyx Campaign ID, not the TCR Campaign ID.
- Optionally enter an existing Messaging Profile ID.
- Confirm that the Campaign belongs to the connected Brand.
- Select Connect approved Campaign.
Launch365 verifies that the Campaign belongs to the connected Brand. If no Messaging Profile ID is supplied, Launch365 creates one automatically after the Campaign is active.
Campaign Statuses
Campaign approval can pass through TCR, Telnyx, and individual mobile network operators, or MNOs. Several intermediate statuses are normal.
| Status shown in Launch365 | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Not started | No Campaign has been submitted or connected. | Complete Brand verification, then submit or connect a Campaign. |
| Created, Submitted, or Under review | The Campaign exists and review is beginning or in progress. | Wait and sync the status later. |
| TCR review | The Campaign is pending at The Campaign Registry. | No action is normally required. |
| TCR accepted | TCR accepted the Campaign, but later provisioning steps remain. | Continue waiting for Telnyx and carrier provisioning. |
| Telnyx accepted | Telnyx accepted the Campaign, but carrier provisioning remains. | Continue waiting. |
| Carrier provisioning or Carrier accepted | Mobile carriers are processing the Campaign. | Continue waiting until final provisioning completes. |
| Approved and provisioned, Approved, or Active | The Campaign is approved for phone-number assignment. | Launch365 creates or connects the Messaging Profile and can assign numbers. |
| TCR rejected, Telnyx review failed, Carrier rejected, Carrier provisioning failed, Rejected, or Failed | One of the review or provisioning stages failed. | Read the Campaign review notes and correct the cited issue before resubmitting. |
| Suspended | The Campaign was suspended for compliance reasons. | Stop sending and contact support. |
| Expired | The Campaign expired and can no longer be used. | Renew or replace it before messaging resumes. |
Approval is controlled by Telnyx, TCR, and the carriers. Launch365 displays their current status but cannot guarantee a review completion time.
Phase 3: Assign a Phone Number
After the Brand and Campaign approval has been synchronized, Launch365 creates or connects a Messaging Profile and assigns each Telnyx number to the Campaign.
Open Settings → SMS & Voice Numbers to buy a new number or attach a number that is already owned in the configured Telnyx account.
Launch365 handles the following steps automatically:
- Saves the number in the app so it remains visible while Telnyx finishes the order.
- Creates or reuses the company’s voice application and configures calling.
- Adds the number to the approved Messaging Profile.
- Checks whether the number already has a Campaign assignment.
- Assigns it to the company’s Campaign when needed.
- Continues checking until Telnyx reports that the assignment is complete.
A US long-code number can belong to only one 10DLC Campaign at a time. If Telnyx reports that the number is already assigned to this company’s Campaign, Launch365 recognizes the existing assignment and continues normally. If the number belongs to a different Campaign, Launch365 stops and reports the conflict instead of moving the number without approval.
Phone-Number SMS Statuses
| Status shown in Launch365 | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Provisioning | The number order or one of its setup steps is still processing. | Leave the number in the app. Launch365 will check it again automatically. |
| SMS registration required | The number exists, but the company does not yet have a fully approved Brand, Campaign, and Messaging Profile. | Select Complete SMS setup and finish A2P registration. Voice may already work. |
| SMS assignment pending | Telnyx accepted the Campaign assignment and carrier-side processing is not finished. | Wait for automatic reconciliation or select Retry SMS setup. |
| SMS ready | Telnyx reports that the number is assigned to the Campaign and messaging is enabled. | The number is ready for SMS/MMS in Launch365. |
| SMS setup failed | The assignment or another required setup step failed. | Read the error shown below the number, correct the issue, and select Retry SMS setup. |
Launch365 does not enable outbound SMS/MMS based only on Brand or Campaign approval. The specific sending number must also show SMS ready.
How Status Updates Reach the App
Launch365 uses several update paths so a pending registration or number can finish without being recreated.
Automatic A2P notifications
The Campaign registration includes a Launch365-managed status webhook. Telnyx can notify the app about Brand, Campaign, and phone-number assignment changes. Launch365 records the new status when a valid notification arrives.
Sync all statuses
On the A2P registration page, select Sync all statuses to request the latest Brand and Campaign details directly from Telnyx. The sync also creates the company’s Messaging Profile when the Campaign has reached an approved status and no profile exists yet.
The Last synchronized timestamp shows when Launch365 last checked or received a registration update. It is not the time Telnyx originally approved the registration.
Automatic number reconciliation
Launch365 checks incomplete Telnyx number orders, voice setup, Messaging Profile setup, and 10DLC assignments in the background every minute. Temporary delays immediately after purchase remain in a pending state and are retried; the number is not discarded from the app.
When the Active Phone Numbers page contains a provisioning or pending number, the page also refreshes after approximately 30 seconds, unless a dialog is open.
Manual number checks
The phone-number page includes these actions:
- Complete SMS setup: Opens A2P registration when the number is waiting for an approved registration.
- Retry SMS setup: Re-runs incomplete setup and checks the Campaign assignment.
- Check SMS: Confirms the current assignment for a number that already has messaging enabled.
- Sync voice: Re-applies the company’s voice application and call configuration.
When SMS/MMS Becomes Available
Launch365 unlocks SMS/MMS only when all of the following are true:
- The Brand status is approved.
- The Campaign status is approved and provisioned.
- The Campaign’s sharing or activation state is acceptable.
- A Messaging Profile exists.
- The sending number is assigned to the Campaign.
If any requirement becomes inactive, suspended, expired, or unassigned, messaging may be blocked again to protect the account from unregistered traffic.
Voice Calling and Call Forwarding
Voice and A2P messaging have separate activation paths. A number may accept calls even when it shows SMS registration required or SMS assignment pending.
When Launch365 provisions the main number during company setup, the app:
- Makes it the company’s primary Telnyx number
- Enables voice
- Sets call routing to Forward to phone number
- Forwards calls to the business phone entered during company setup
If the Telnyx order is still processing, the number appears in the app and Launch365 completes the voice setup automatically. Additional numbers can use company defaults, forward to another number, route to the AI Receptionist, go to voicemail, or have voice disabled from the number’s Edit page.
The Sync voice action is separate from Retry SMS setup because a successful call configuration does not mean the number is registered for texting.
Troubleshooting
The number was purchased but texting is not ready
Check the badge next to the number:
- SMS registration required: Complete the Brand and Campaign registration.
- Provisioning or SMS assignment pending: Allow the automatic check to run, refresh the page, or select Retry SMS setup.
- SMS setup failed: Read the error displayed below the number and correct that issue before retrying.
The number should remain visible while these steps complete.
The Brand or Campaign status has not changed
Select Sync all statuses on the A2P registration page. If the status remains under review, Telnyx or a carrier has not reported a final result yet.
Review failed
Read the Brand or Campaign review notes displayed under the status card. Correct the specific issue cited. Common issues include:
- Legal name or EIN mismatch
- An inaccessible website
- Missing or unclear opt-in language
- Sample messages that do not match the use case
- Missing sender identification or opt-out instructions
- Privacy policy or terms that do not describe the SMS program
- Incorrect content attributes
Do not create duplicate Brands or Campaigns simply because a review is taking longer than expected.
Telnyx briefly reports that a new number was not found
This can happen when a number order succeeds before all Telnyx systems can use the number for Campaign assignment. Launch365 treats this as a temporary provisioning state, keeps the number visible, and retries through automatic reconciliation.
Telnyx says the number is already assigned
If it is assigned to the same Campaign, Launch365 confirms the existing assignment and continues. If it is assigned to a different Campaign, contact support with the phone number and both Campaign IDs. Launch365 will not silently remove or reassign it.
Voice setup needs attention
Select Sync voice. Launch365 reuses the company’s existing voice application when one already exists and reapplies the correct call routes. If the action still fails, provide the displayed voice error to support.
Information to Send Support
If a status remains failed or inconsistent, include:
- Company name and company ID
- Telnyx Brand ID
- Telnyx Campaign ID
- Affected phone number in
+1XXXXXXXXXXformat - The status shown in Launch365
- The full review note or provisioning error
- The last synchronized or last checked time
- A screenshot, when useful
Do not send passwords, Telnyx API keys, or other private credentials.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I buy or attach a number before A2P approval?
Yes. The number can appear in Launch365 and voice can be configured first. It will show SMS registration required until the registration is complete. After approval, select Sync all statuses so Launch365 can create the Messaging Profile; automatic number reconciliation then finishes the messaging setup.
Can I send SMS while a Campaign is under review?
No. LaunchSMS blocks SMS/MMS until the Campaign and the sending number are fully active.
Does voice readiness mean SMS is ready?
No. Voice and messaging are configured independently. Always check the SMS status badge next to the number.
Do I need to register again for every phone number?
No. A company normally uses its approved Brand and Campaign for the phone numbers that send the same registered message types. Each individual number still must be assigned to that Campaign.
Can one phone number be assigned to multiple Campaigns?
No. Telnyx allows one 10DLC Campaign assignment per number at a time.
What happens when the first number becomes SMS ready?
If the company does not already have a primary Telnyx number, LaunchSMS can make the first fully assigned number primary. A fully provisioned alternative number can also be selected with Make primary.
